Starting out in one building as a stake academy owned by the LDS Church, Weber has grown into a large undergraduate college that rivals the largest and best in the nation. The LDS Church founded Weber in 1889 as a high school and classes were held in the Ogden Second Ward meeting house. Renamed Weber Normal College in 1916, Weber added two years of college classes and in 1923 dropped the high school curriculum to become a junior college. Upon becoming a four year college on May 14, 1963, Weber State College was given its present name. According to Academic Vice President Robert Smith, WSC has an instructional role in the format of Utah's schools. It provides strong undergraduate degree programs in vocational and educational areas, as compared to BYU and the U of U, whose roles are those of research institutions. Weber has an even 11-11 record for past Homecoming games, but Coach Mike Price feels that the record will be bettered to 12-11 this Saturday. Price feels that the football team will play much better than they did last week, and although the upcoming game will be tough, Weber will win. see "Tricks" on page 2.

|Description||Weber's current student newspaper, the Signpost, first appeared on September 29, 1937. For two years prior to that time, campus news was disseminated via announcements posted on a bulletin board known as the "Signpost". As a result, the masthead of the first issue of the paper itself featured a rudimentary wooden sign with the title spelled out in rustic-looking letters. Over the years the paper has been published continuously, though the look, size and style has changed several times.|
