Biographical Note/Historical Note +/-

Dr. David Eisler received a Bachelor of Music in clarinet performance from the University of Michigan in 1972, a Master of Music from Yale University in 1975, and a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Michigan in 1978. He married Patricia Johnson on January 6, 1973.  He and his wife have two daughters, Heather and Lindsay.

He began his academic career as a music instructor at Troy State University in Alabama in 1975, advancing to the rank of tenured full professor and Associate Dean of the School of Fine Arts in 1982.  He then served as the Dean of the College of Fine Arts at Eastern New Mexico University from 1990-1996. When he began his tenure as Dean, his college was under threat of termination or combined with the college of science. By the time he left he was considered an asset to the university. During this period ENMU was chosen by the Pew Charitable Trust to receive its Leadership Award for the Renewal of Undergraduate Education.

Dr. Eisler was the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs from 1996-2003. He was the fourth individual to hold the office of Provost at Weber. During his tenure the school transitioned from the quarter to semester system, he participated in the university's first capital campaign in 2003, and saw the introduction of several undergraduate and graduate programs. He helped reverse the school's trend of declining enrollment with growth in the student body from 13,900 to 18,100. While at Weber State he helped guide the creation of WSU Online, selected by the University Continuing Education Association as Outstanding Distance Education Program of the Year in 1998. While at Weber, Dr. Eisler presented and published on campus portals, teaching and learning with technology and the use of technology to create 21st century learning organizations.

Dr. Eisler left Weber State in 2003 to become the president of Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan.
