Utah & Pacific Railroad Company. Dear Sir:-
Since writing you on the 19th ultimo, in reply to yours of the proceeding date requesting at least six additional miles of rails, etc., I have to inform you that I have been advised by our Chief Engineer, who has been in communication with your Engineer, Mr. West, upon the subject, that the total length of the main line of the Utah & Pacific Railroad from point of connection with the O.S.L.R.R. to the State Line, is 74.56 miles, and that the total length of side tracks constructed and to be constructed, as reported by Mr.West, aggregates 17,266 feet; but assuming a total for emer-gencies of side-tracks at 4 miles, would make a total of rail required of 78.56 miles to fulfill the contract for furnishing rail as existing between this Company and the Utah & Pacific R.R.Co. This being the case, then 2.56 miles additional rail, to the 76 miles previously requested and furnished, would seem sufficient,if these figures are correct, to fulfill the contract.
Perhaps at the time of writing you had not informed yourself accurately on this point, as I had not at the time I replied. Please, however, give this matter consideration and advise me as early as practicable whether or not, with this understanding of the D.Eccles - #2.
facts, there is any reason for delivering more than 2.56 miles additional rail with the necessary fastenings therefor.
Yours truly, WH Bancroft
