Copy of portion of letter from Hon. Frank J. Cannon to A. P. Heywood, un¬der date of April 16th. 1897.
""Col. Clayton' sent rather a startling letter the other day, in which he stated that the arrangement made while he was here had not been car¬ried out on the lines suggested for the settlement of the Flint judgment. I have, however, written to him, directing the sacrafice of certain in¬terests which had been set apart to me individually, and invoking his co-operation to realize from them sufficient to discharge the debt. Under the arrangement made while he was here, the consecration of my entire holdings in certain enterprises would not have been necessary. But I am willing that a division of these resources to the end may be had. ""
