Dear George:
Since my return from Mexico City I have been intending to write and thank you for a fine lunch at the University Club and visit to your office. We enjoyed this more than you know - also, of course, I am pleased you had a chance to meet Hugh Douglas and Phil Dettmer.
Needless to say I am very much impressed with your library and exploration facilities. The work you have going on for finding copper deposits in Mexico sounds intriguing. To me the possibility of discovering a major district along the intrusive structural belt of the Western Cordillera offers much promise. I shall be on the lookout for reports of your progress through our mutual friends.
Last week I attended the mining show in Las Vegas. As usual the equipment gets bigger and better with each passing year. Also the unusually large group from Mexican mining engineers and executives present attest to the expansion underway in companies like Penoles, Asarco and Placer Mexicana, to mention a few.
In a few days you will be receiving an announcement from Utah on its change of corporate name. This reflects our continuing interest in copper mining, uranium, coal and other minerals. Since we have dropped the construction business there is no justification for carrying the name construction in our masthead.
I know you have enjoyed your trip to Spain and Portugal while attending the geologic conference. Perhaps before too long we will have a chance to sit down and exchange some ideas on metallogenic privinces and exploration philosophy.
