Sister M. Madeleva CSC (born Mary Evaline Wollf) joined the Sisters of Holy Cross in 1908, and became one of the order’s best known figures. From 1919 to 1926 she served as principal of Ogden’s Sacred Heart Academy, before becoming president of the College of St. Mary-of-the-Wasatch in Salt Lake City. In 1934, she became president of St. Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana. Madeleva was also a prolific poet and essayist.
