In 1878, the Sisters of the Holy Cross opened the doors to the Sacred Heart Academy on 26th Street and Washington. The original enrollment was 150 day students and 60 resident students. A group of seven sisters were sent from Saint Mary’s College to teach the students in courses of English, Foreign Languages, Music and Art.
