For Legion Meeting, Dern to Give Address Opening Session Scheduled for 2 o CIock Thursday Afternoon. With delegations of members from all of the posts starting, to arrive for the tenth annual convention of the Utah department of the American Legion, to be held at the Hotel Utah Thursday, Friday and Saturday, the indications are that the meetings will be the most successful in the history of the organization.In view of the fact that the legion membership has increased to its highest peak during the year under the leadership of E. A. Littlefield, department commander, the attendance is expected to reach 1000. FIRST MEET THURSDAY. The first official meeting will be called to order at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon by Commander Littlefield. After the proper respect has been paid to the colors the first act of the convention will be to honor in silent prayer the departed comrades who fell during the World war. Governor George H. Dern will deliver the address of welcome, while Charles R. Mabey, commander of Salt Lake post No. 2, will welcome the delegates on behalf of the legion. J. W. Palmer, vice commandep of the Salt Lake post, will respond for the legion members and the Forty and Light. Herman Baker post No. 9 of Ogden will furnish the entertainment during the session. The introduction of guests will be made by Hal Farr. Included in the list will be Congressmen E. O. Leatherwood and Don B. Colton, J. C. Vivian of Denver, American Legion rehabilitation officer for area E, and Lester F. Albert of Idaho, sous chef de chemin de fer of the Forty and Eight. TO REPORT PROGRESS. Reports of the accomplishments of the department during the year will be made by Mr. Littlefield and Otto A. Weisley, department adjutant. On Thursday evening at 6, 30 o'clock the annual banquet of the American Legion auxiliary will be held at the Hotel Utah. The affair will be given under the direction of the Salt Lake unit of which Mrs. Serena W. Jones is president. Some excellent entertainment to be furnished by the Salt Lake group, will be presented. A dance will follow at the Blue Bird. Wields Gavel. E. A. Littlefield, commander of the Utah department of the American legion, who will preside at the tenth annual convention which opens at the Hotel Utah Thursday.
