When we would go home, we would go past what is known as the DDO now, and the prisoners were kept in the northwest corner. This was the closest corner to home . . . . . They weren't belligerent or anything. The only times I saw them; they were always dressed in blue fatigues like army fatigues. They had POW written in white across their backs. They would be out cleaning up the area and shoveling. They always seemed to be happy. They sometimes would be singing. They would stop and watch everybody that went by. They would never yell at them. They just watched what was going on. Sometimes when you went by, you would see those marching or doing calisthenics or something. They all seemed happy.
