Queering the Archives

The following is an oral history interview with HallieKate Briggs on November 3 and 10, 2021 by Lorrie Rands. Hallie Kate talks about growing up in a rural Utah community, finding space in the queer community and coming to terms with their sexual identity. They discuss their time at Weber State University and hopes for the future.

The following is an oral history interview with Reed Brown conducted on July 26, 2022 with Ian Orme. Reed talks about growing up queer in a religiously diverse area of Ogden. He shares his experiences working for Rainbow Gardens and his time at Weber State University. Also present is Faith Christiansen.

The following is an oral history interview with Elizabeth Brummett conducted on September 4, 2021, in the Stewart Library Special Collection Reading Room by Lorrie Rands. Elizabeth talks about growing up in the Salt Lake City/Murray area of Utah as an outsider of the predominate culture, and of indigenous ancestry. She shares coming to understand her own queerness and that of her family. She also recounts her schooling and working as a therapist in various states.

The following is an oral history interview with Andrea Flores, conducted on August 31, 2021, in the Stewart Library’s Archive Conference Room by Lorrie Rands. Andrea discusses being born in Mexico, coming to America, her DACA status, growing up in Ogden, her time at Weber State University, growing up queer and accepting her identity. Michael Thompson is also present during the interview.

The following is an oral history interview with Nute Rands conducted on September 20, and finished on October 11, 2021, in the Stewart Library by Alyssa Kammerman. Nute discusses growing up with a father in the Utah Air National Guard in Layton, coming to terms with his sexuality and ultimately coming out as transgender in his twenties. Also present is Michael Thompson.

The following is an oral history interview with Michael Thompson conducted on September 10, 2021 and finished on October 8, 2021 in his home in Ogden, Utah by Lorrie Rands. Michael discusses in early years growing up in Utah County, coming to terms with his sexuality and his religion, his marriage, and finding joy in parenthood. He finishes by talking about his time working at Weber State University and the relief he has found in coming out to coworkers, friends, and family. Also present is Alyssa Kammerman.
